Scoring

Match Scoring

During each match each of the three judges will complete a Score Sheet.  Each judge has a vote with each judge’s vote going to whichever team receives a higher score on his/her score sheet. (If a judge that awards equal points to the two teams each team receives half of his/her vote.) The winner of the match is the team that receives more votes.

In the group stage of any tournament, if the two teams receive an equal number of votes then each team is awarded half a victory.

In the knockout stage of any tournament, if the two teams receive an equal number of votes, then the winner is the team that receives the most points in the match.

In the knockout stage of any tournament, if the two teams receive equal votes and equal points then

  • if it’s the championship match in the finals in St. Andrews: the two teams are co-champions
  • if it’s any other knockout match: the winner is the team that would be ranked higher according to its performance in the non-knockout matches of that same tournament. See “Tournament Scoring” (below) for details of how to rank teams according to their performance in non-knockout matches.

Tournament Scoring

To determine a) progression to the knockout stage of any tournament, b) seeding in the knockout stage of any tournament, and c) progression to the finals among non-regional-winners, each team is ranked according to its performance in non-knockout matches in the following way: those with a higher rate of victories-per-match are ranked above those with a lower rate; among those with equal victories-per-match those with a higher rate of votes-per-match are ranked above those with a lower rate; among those with equal votes-per-match those with higher average point differential are ranked above those with a lower average; among those with an equal average point differential those with more points are ranked above those with fewer; among those with an equal number of points, a coin toss determines priority.
